Many uses of bamboo require extensive processing. An ideal application would use the material with minimal modification. Craig Calfee, the founder of Calfee Design, a manufacturer of carbon fiber bike frames, has done just that. Since 1995, he had been experimenting with bamboo as a frame material and found that it's vibration damping characteristics gave the frames a very smooth ride. He finally went into production with both road and mountain bike frames made out of this strong, tough, lightweight and sustainable material.
