Lifehacker explained how to use cold air from the environment to chill items in your refrigerator, effectively reducing power consumption. Very cool! (no pun intended).
It would seem obvious that you can pump ambient in to cool your refrigerator but difficulties arise in piping air and modifying the refrigerator body, among other issues. This article makes a simple suggestion. Take buckets and pails full of ice from outside and pack it inside an unplugged refrigerator. The refrigerator is already insulated enough to largely prevent melting. I mean a refrigerator and a cooler are pretty much the same thing, just a different scale.
So, save yourself some money and help clear the streets of slippery ice. Double commendation for being a good samaritan.
I never expected this could be possible. Thank you for sharing this on your post. I will be doing this then.

Hey, if I have to go out and freeze buckets of water why not just keep the refrigerator outside.

I have read this article or this method of recycling before. I try it and it works. But that's many years ago. I want to try it again now, thanks for posting it again. Great!

Really? Is it really effective? By just recycling the cold we can lower our refrigeration costs. That's great. Thanks for posting.
